Our Day for Toddlers

Every day at Little Curiosities Nursery & Preschool is warm, friendly and filled with wonder, especially for our curious toddlers. Our gentle, flexible routine is designed to create a welcoming environment, providing children with a strong sense of security and comfort, while also encouraging exploration and play.

Welcome & Free play

We begin the day with relaxed free play. Toddlers choose from a range of open-ended activities, including blocks, sensory trays, role-playing, books, and arts and crafts, settling into the day at their own pace.

Circle time & Song sessions

After everyone has arrived, we gather for a short circle time, which often includes singing songs, reading a story or exploring the day’s theme or interest together. Examples include Animal Week and ‘Be’ Week.

Outdoor play & Exploration

We love all-weather outdoor play and spend time outside every day, rain or shine. Toddlers love to climb, run, dig, ride bikes and help water the plants in our garden centre or at our off-site allotment. It’s a chance for children to build confidence and develop their physical skills in a natural environment.

Healthy snack & Social time

Toddlers enjoy a healthy mid-morning snack in a calm and sociable environment, where they develop independence, self-help skills, and a sense of routine.

Focused activities & Child-led play

We provide engaging activities tailored to their interests and developmental levels. These activities may include art projects, sensory play, building activities or themed games relating to what excites them the most.

Lunchtime

Viv, our friendly on-site chef, serves a freshly cooked, nutritious meal. Mealtimes are calm and sociable, providing toddlers with the opportunity to enjoy new flavours and develop independence.

Rest & Quiet time

After lunch, toddlers who need a rest can enjoy a peaceful nap or relax in our cosy snug corner. Others may choose quiet activities, such as reading stories or doing puzzles.

Afternoon play & Enrichment

The afternoon is filled with fun and engaging activities, such as Yoga with Ella, Dance with Miss Emily, and gardening in the allotment. Each activity is carefully paced to suit the toddlers’ energy levels and needs.
